My first post

Hi everyone!

My name is Iván and I'm 22 years old. I come from Barcelona, in Spain, where I have always lived and studied.

This is not the last project I did, but I'll share it with you. Barcelona is not only a city, but a huge region which also consists of other cities around it. This is the case of this small city called Esparreguera. We were supposed to suggest how the city could expand significantly in a concrete place, with new buildings and public equipments.
The first drawing tries to analyse how the complicated geography of this place is: the mountains, the river... The second one shows how the houses are placed strategically because of the global geography of the territory, and the horrible expansion this city has already experienced: a lot of private houses with private gardens organized in lines, which create monofunctional streets with no life and possibilities for cititzens.
The third picture shows how "Esparreguera" (the black line in the left side) is situated in the "high points" of one mountain, and another town in the right side of the image, in a flat territory. In addition, this other town consists of rectangles and perpendicular straight streets. And in the middle of these two different and unfortunately disconnected towns, there is the river. You can also see "a line" which tries to join them; it's a "funicular" (cable car?) which should be a new way of public transport between them.
The fourth image tries to be the first proposal for Esparreguera; in the flat part of the territory, I suggested the most dense part, as it's the easiest part to be built and it's got wonderful views. On the other hand, when the territory gets lower to the left side, we get nearer the highway, so the density is reduced and the functions also change; instead of housing, some working-units are suggested.
The rest of the pictures try to explain how the streets of the new part of the city want to adapt to the existent geography, and the importance given to keep alive all the trees and vegetation. There are wonderful olive trees in this part of Barcelona, and I thought it was indispensable to situate the parks and the most important public equipments in relation to them. The picture with coloured points explains the purpose of mixing functions as much as possible, so that monofunctional sectors could be avoided. Finally, the highest buildings are situated in the right part of the sector, because they also enjoy beautiful views, and can relate to the park and trees conserved in that part.
I hope you may understand something, and I apologize for the bad quality of the images.
I'm also looking forward to meeting you, and discovering the secrets of Norwegian landscape!
Vi ses!!
Iván

  1. Iván! Thanks for sharing this project. I really appreciate the way you are analyzing the landscape in order to find the best wa to build in it. I think that is an imortant thing to keep with you if you are doing a building project this semester.
