student: oh jian li, chris

digital architecture studio

The studio concentrated on the potential of material systems to generate alternative spatial and programmatic conditions. Practices of diagrams, material systems and time-based planning are used to create non-standard architecture.

A hybrid of two material systems, the geodesic and the tension membrane were researched to develop a design for a music school. The design proposed the occupation of two existing buildings next to the site to free up the groud level for a central access to an 80 storey office tower behind.

1. kinetic model exploration of material system in the physical realm

2. section illustrating the interation of spaces through material system

3. architectural response of material system to site and program

  1. Dear Jian Li - nice that you choose to post this project! systemic thinking is really what links architecture to landscape in the closest sense. I am very curious to hear what you know more about geodesics and their ecological implications!

  2. And great 3d-work! Keep your interest in systems and try to investigate what it means in a landscape. Maybe you can look for some in your first assignment?

    Good luck!

  3. Thanks for all the comments. Still fumbling around here with the first assignment but I'll keep an eye out on opportunities for further exploration of architectural and ecological systems.
